Flights Disrupted at Riyadh Airport Following Houthi Attack
Flight operations at King Khalid International Airport were disrupted following a Houthi attack on Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. A fire broke out at a fuel facility near the airport, sending thick black smoke into the air.
The Houthis said they launched missile and drone attacks on Riyadh on September 19. Saudi authorities reported intercepting a ballistic missile heading toward the capital and responding to attacks targeting other cities in the country. At around 03:00, residents in Riyadh were advised to remain indoors. Two explosions were subsequently heard in the city, and the warning was lifted approximately half an hour later.
The attack came amid rising global jet fuel prices. According to IATA data, the global average jet fuel price rose by 6.1% last week to $181.46 per barrel. Any damage to oil refineries, fuel storage facilities or export infrastructure could further affect fuel supplies and increase costs for airlines.
